As far as I can tell Taylor is the only one with a voice and talent worth the hype.

I was just a kid, but I remember when Linda Eder was ranking up the votes on ... Star Search. She had a voice, too. But, the material she chose and continued to choose throughout her career were terrible -- I blame it on a bad marriage decision. I think Ed McMahan was the host back then... maybe she should have married him. Star Search had a comedy section, which is sadly lacking from American Idol and a children's competition, which seemed a bit sick and cruel, and that I'm glad is missing from American Idol.

I still haven't been able to get into American Idol because it just seems so... light and fluffy. Whenever I watch there are very few actual performances and the set is some kind of stupid sci-fi thing they stole from the missing link lady. I feel like the show is designed to convert law-abiding red meat eaters into meterosexual people magazine reading hair products salesman. I hate the host. I'm not sure if Ed McMahan is alive or dead, but regardless, he could and should smackdown that little non-substantive pretty boy.

Having said all that, is it just me or can the Taylor guy sing? :-)
