For Jim: Some horror stuff

- DESCENT is now on dvd, i forget if you saw it or not but if not, you definitely should. ditto neil marshall's previous film, DOG SOLDIERS. of all the new directors he is the only one i would place among the legends of my youth (Carpenter, Romero, etc)

- I have been working on the side for a horror website, www.bloody-disgusting.com, the #1 trafficked site on the net for horror, apparently. mostly i just do editing work, but i occasionally get to interview someone and/or go to press screenings. therefore, i saw a movie called SEVERANCE that is possibly the best comedy/horror hybrid ever. its about arms dealers going into the woods for a team building exercise weekend, and a slasher comes along. Office Space meets Friday the 13th in Deliverance country. HIGHLY recommended. and its british! i think it comes out in April.

- THE HITCHER remake is beat for beat identical to the original. the only real thing that was changed was having the girl right from the start and making her the main character. so its not nearly as creepy or interesting, but its enjoyable nonetheless (tho i suspect my enjoyment stems primarily from the cute-as-hell lead girl). for those who havent seen the original, i highly recommend you do so. rutger hauer is amazing in it.

- i havent seen them all but so far the new season of masters of horror is a slight improvement over season 1. brad anderson (session 9, another underrated gem) did an episode about a guy with an extremely accelerated sense of hearing. and john landis did one with george wendt as a killer, and managed to pull it off. yes, norm is scary.
