1. The verses & chorus in Graveyard are totally different to Bad For Good, the ONLY connection being the 'god speed' parts. 2. The 'god speed' parts (& Graveyard) work perfect in the Batman context, but I don't think they would work, being sung by Hook on a rampage. 3. Maybe Jim can use both songs, but omit the 'god speed' parts from Graveyard; then there's no conflict ? 4. If Graveyard is used, then the Vespers part needs to remain & incorporated, as it is simply joyous and would sound great sung in the theatre, by a really good soprano voice (see Lesley Garrett in The Sound Of Music). I can certainly hear the 'save us o lord, save us' being used as a leitmotif within the show. Having said all that, I think Graveyard works perfect as Batman's lament, but I'm not so sure about it being sung by Hook on a 'search & destroy mission'. It sounds like the tempo & lyrics would need changing, but if anyone can do it, Jim can. In fact the 'Bad For Good' title seems more fitting for Hook's rampage; maybe it should be re-worked? > I do not think of Graveyard Shift as a Hook song for one > reason... in your previous interview you said that Bad For > Good was written as the song Baal (Peter) would sing to > Wendy to convince her to run away with him (presumably > taking the place that Bat held in the Neverland workshop). > Since Graveyard Shift uses the Bad For Good music I can't > see having both of them in the show and I think Bad For > Good is one of the lyrically strongest pieces in the show > in that it most progresses the story. I also think Surf's > Up is one of the best songs having been mentioned as being > part of Neverland (for when Peter seduces Wendy) and I > fear this will not be in the Bat Musical either. | |
