This was yet another project for Jim, where nothing actually emerged musically. From what I understand, Jim worked with ELO 2 for about two weeks in the early 90's, before he left the project, as he couldn't agree a deal with their then manager, the infamous Don Arden (Sharon Osbourne's father). I think Eric Troyer joined the band AFTER Jim left, but on Jim's recommendation (ELO wanted a singer/songwriter). I think the Asia connection is John Payne. He was in ELO 2 and then joined Asia; presumably this is one of his songs ?? > Quest For The Key/ELO Part II > A.L.O.(Asiatic Light Orchestra) ASIA > > The ELO project i believe came about as a direct reponse > to Eric Troyer joining ELO PartII. > The line up included some original members and was > augmented by Conductor Louis Clark. > > The only reference i can find to any studio/song info is > the following which can be found in the ASIA ARCHIVA 1 cd, > it reads as follows > > "This song started life as a demo for ELO Part II and was > called Quest For The Key, Much liked by the then producer > Jim Steinman. > It was upgraded and renamed humorously "ALO" and was then > recorded as a demo for the ARIA album". > > > I am a huge ASIA fan and on listening to ALO, you will > spot elements of Go Go Guerillas & Wonderful Toys, as the > former predates the Asia track by many years one must > assume some credit should go to Jim as you can hear his > influence. | |
