I think... I don't know of anything that stands up in comparison.
But I also think that everyone ought to take a listen to The Protomen: Act II. See that totally-not-really Streets Of Fire album cover? Listen to the story played out in song. It's kind of like Metropolis or something. It does have edges of Wagner, edges of Queen backing vocal styles (they've more recently released an album that's a Queen tribute live show). It's good stuff. Really good stuff. It has POWER. It is BIG. It is full of heroics and human turmoil! >:)
But....... it's not like Steinman. Not at all.
It is more like... there is a common root, and then a divergence. Then, they run in parallel, never to touch.
Listen! Listen! Listen!
