It also helps build the world of the adults of Obsidian, because up until now all we've known of it is - Falco, Sloane, and non-speaking people who work for them.

I mean, I assume that there's more adults than just them and that The Lost are a tiny minority... but there's nothing solid to back that up.

This scene says - Yes there's a functioning city out there, with more adult people who have jobs and stuff.

You're good at this. :)

BTW - were you near enough to the front to actually get hit by any "ribbons of blood" at the end of act one? :D
