There have always been people who think that Steinman is too much. Nothing to snag on.

I saw another short review that also gave the show three stars because he did not understand the story. Here is a passage from it:
“The issue here is that the story is never set up properly (it's not explained how things got like this, or why the controlling force is the controlling force, you're given 2 sentences at the start, and it's left for you to draw your own conclusions.
Overall, Bat Out of Hell is a fun time, with all the Meatloaf songs you're probably hoping far. The cast sings, acts, and dances brilliantly, but the set design and storyline let it down.”

There may be something to the lack of a brief background description of the story of the show. Many musicals are based known stories and thus don´t have this problem. Bat out of hell on the other hand is based on an own story. A large part of the audience is unaware of what the show is all about when they come to the theater. They are instead just set to hear great music.

When some friends mentioned that they had plans to go to Manchester to see the musical, I began directly to explain briefly what it is about and what roles are included so they don’t need to think about this the first 20 minutes of the show. Then they can instead entirely focus on enjoying the music and the performances. It probably wouldn´t hurt with a brief description that tells you: Where we are, How we got here and Who lives here. The description could be projected on the stage when people sit themselves in the chairs. (A bit like the beginning of Star Wars.) Just a thought.
