Last fall, plans were announced to mount a lengthy U.S. tour of Bat Out of Hell: The Musical, the stage production inspired by Meat Loaf's landmark 1977 album and its sequels, but the trek was canceled before it began. Now, a six-week New York City engagement of the musical has been confirmed, running from early August to early September at New York City Center.

The show's first performance will be held August 1, while the official opening night is scheduled for August 8, with a run through September 8. Before last year's cancellation, the production originally had been slated to run from July 30 to September 22 at City Center.

Tickets are on sale now via NYCityCenter.org, at the venue's box office, or by phoning 212-581-1212.

As previously reported, Bat Out of Hell: The Musical showcases a variety of classic songs written by Jim Steinman and made famous by Meat Loaf, including "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad," "Paradise by the Dashboard Light," "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth" and "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)."

The production is a romantic adventure focusing on an eternally youthful street tribe locked in a desperate battle with a tyrant for control of the ruined city where they live.

Bat Out of Hell: The Musical had its world premiere in Manchester, U.K., in early 2017, then moved to London's West End, where it enjoyed multiple engagements. The show also has been staged in Toronto and Oberhausen, Germany.

Editorial note: Regarding the cast, the above article has been written with the perspective of the ill-fated 2018 US tour in mind, but it should be noted Andrew Polec, Christina Bennington and Danielle Steers originated the characters of Strat, Raven and Zahara in the UK productions of Bat Out Of Hell in 2017-2018 and are transferring over.
