I just started with "The Colour of Magic" (ie. the first one) and then carried on reading them in the order they were written. Each book is kind of independant of the others and has its own conclusion but some of the storylines follow on from one book to the next so, although you don't *have* to read them in chronological order it makes more sense to.
Ali (who thinks the Discworld books are great and doesn't care what anyone else thinks about them :P )
