That's a shame as I think it's one of Steinman's strongest lyrics, but I guess it's a matter of taste...
For me Everything is Permitted is about the death of the Romantic spirit and the descent into Nihilism, essentially where we are today, where the secular mind has conquered everything and all that's left is a soulless void, a metaphorical wasteland...
Although I think the line "And all our Gods we have outwitted" takes on new significance with the rise of religious extremism and the new wave of anti-reason currently sweeping the western world.
