Independent of that, the Kenny that I am reminded of in the song died in similar situations as this but not in a motorcycle accident. The Kenny I think of, was like a brother to me because for two years we lived in the same house, before he had died; he had taken a course given for Young Adventurers by the American Red Cross, a ten month long program which taught him basic survival and adventure rescue skills, including swimming pool lifesaving. Kenny was certified as a Junior Life Guard and was scheduled to begin his first job only mere days after that fateful one in which he met his death. Kenny said to me that he felt that the Red Cross gave him his knowledge of "why I was born", and he was feeling purpose to his activities there. He said he started the program after I became injured with glass in my foot and he didn't know how to help me, but wanted to. Kenny was an avid skiier and promised to teach me to ski before he died, but another trip to the slopes did not take place before that. He was a really remarkable boy, who played piano in his music school recitals every season and practiced his piano every day, in our shared home in Long Island. He was sensitive, who appreciated the arts, he was interested in baking and let me be his kitchen assistant, and we had a really wonderful time together those times when we talked. It is very difficult to listen to that song without thinking of my own cousin Kenny, who meant so much to me and whom was taken from me much too soon. > > > Especially considering how Kenny popped up again in his > > "Dear Mama" monologue for TDE.
