The element is this: By making it brief, dramatic, to some kind of hostile or combative point, one thinks very carefully of what to omit that would contradict their statement, and omits it, one thinks carefully of what effect the briefness has and maximizes it, and one thinks of what is arguable and avoids it. In summary, where someone wants to deceive, they employ brief statements that do not leave them open to the controversy that they wish to control. In politics this is called Rhetoric and it is ruining our world. The more we promote the acceptability of rhetoric the more destructive we are letting others be. To those who rely on rhetoric, the acceptability of their rhetoric hides their motivations, and hides their true intentions and positions. The reason why I do not make brief statements is because I know the difference between facts and rhetoric. The reason why I am explaining it to you is because I care about our world. You want me to write brief phrases to find holes in them, and I write long phrases to prevent holes from being made prey to your scavenging. When you stop scavenging for my weaknesses, I may be more comfortable, and comfortable enough to write brief statements that I feel you may take on its face value. But we are obviously far from that. Aside from this issue, I happen to have a love affair with twisty phrases and I love them so much that I gravitate to them so that the more words the more perversely happy I am. This is an area that I am working on, which has nothing to do with rhetoric. If I can meet my avoidance of scavenging with a briefer expression, then I think we will have the best of both worlds in terms of my own writing. And you calling me a liar is doing nothing for progress of any kind. The entire structure of my intellectual upbringing is based on intellectual examinations, which entail questions and answers, and discussions. To just be called a liar without any form of examining of my statements in any earnest fashion (and I know that this is impossible for you and so I do not hold hopes, therefore you are now on my ignore list), is to be detrimental to any form of progress in any intellectual debate. It makes you a sissy. | |
