Mental people don't go round calling themselves mental, usually people have to point it out that they are mental, so they can seek professional help.
My compassion goes so far as to point out that Susan's a fucking fruitcake and desperately needs electric shock treatment with heavy doses of anti-psychotic drugs. I don't think living in California helps either, as that's a land of fruit & nuts.
Making pathetic excuses for her behaviour isn't really encouraging her to seek help, pointing them out hopefully will.
