I think a lot of Spector fans and people around Spector, in addition to the gun-man himself, have an inflated view of Spector's influence on other producers.

I honestly believe that "You Took..." is the only Steinman track that is an imitation of Phil Spector. And Steinman wasn't even the producer of that.

Steinman may have loved Spector's work. Spector's work may have inspired Jim. But if you listen to Jim's piano sound, the way backup vocals are used, the style of the lyrics, the style of the songs and all the rest of it, Jim developed a style notably different from Spector.

I think Jim is overall one of the more original people who've made pop music.
