| Well, I've never met Rinkoff so I can't comment on how he comes over in the flesh so to speak. I don't doubt he has Jim's best interests at heart (or at least he does as far as he sees it) - afterall, Jim's best interests would be Rink's best interests as well. I think there's certainly some truth in 2), but possibly 1) most of all, and I think that is where there is a failing. It's all very well to lock yourself away in a studio for years, taking forever to make something as perfect as you possibly can, but the danger is that by the time you try to release it the world has passed you by and forgotten who you once were. One of Jim's frustrations in his working life must be the amount of projects that have started (or even just been conceived) but have never seen the light of day - musicals, albums, even songs that have been left unfinished or unreleased. Sometimes, you've just gotta go with what you've got and trust your first instincts. If Jim and Rink think the Dream Engine has got legs, then go for it - get back and play live shows, release an album, a single, ANYTHING - then plug it! Sell it through this site, through itunes or wherever, use a small indie label if you have to, get it airplay by whatever means necessary....in short, do what Jim and Meat did with 'Bat Out Of Hell' all those years ago and get it out there. At the end of the day, a few bootlegs and a flashy website that is never updated is not going to hook people in. The last fan message on TDE's myspace was Happy Christmas....says it all really. | |
