Dirty comedy, as far as I know, would never have reached a pinnacle of popularity had it not have been for the Catskills routines, and other live performances onstage by Buddy Hackett, who had as dirty and mealy a mouth as anyone you could hear. Without hearing tapes of those performances, one could not have gotten a clue of his proclivities towards "dirty humor", because he complied well with the constraints of censorship of television appearances. You would not have known he ever thought of the four letter words. George Carlin who popularized dirty comedy through his 'seven words" routine, only came after the fact of Buddy Hackett's successes, selling out at resorts regularly. It did not seem natural to slide from one perception of him to another, but his nature was what his shows contained, and he loved being vulgar. It got so that there became two kinds of comics: those who loved following in Hackett's footsteps, and those who felt pressured by demands to include some racy material. The clean comedians are still my favorite because I am in spirit a vestile virgin, and must cover my ears alot :) I have not heard Saget perform "dirty comedy" but I am sure that it would be as surprising to me as it was hearing Hackett, who I loved as a comedian dearly. > Yep, I'm a very big fan of myself. > > > I've seen bits and pieces of this and it doesn't work for > > me at all.
