| The newest video games are just a freely available to download and play as the latest movies are, and you don't have to cope with the downgrade to youtube video quality. Ok, it takes *ages* to download if you're wanting those huge PS3 / 360 games, but it's very easy with PS2/PSP/DS/PC games, and the circles of piracy are about as big as with music / films / TV shows, as far as I can see. The reason videogames are becoming more popular with the mainstream, I think, is because domestic TV veered towards reality TV and low-quality stuff, films are more and more generic, pop music is even more generic than film, and videogames... they give people more interaction, more involvement, more engagement, and videogames tend to last longer. Well, it's questionable whether the impact of a film lasts longer with a viewer than the impact of a game onto a player, depends how well made both are, but you see people mentioning the length of games a lot in reviews. e.g. they'll complain "it's too short" if it takes them 3 hours to finish, even though that's twice the length of the average film. ... And that's why we can't suggest that Jim moves into making video games. It's hard enough to get short amounts of new content out of him, let alone dozens of hours of gameplay...! | |
