Maybe he's not writing about himself or something's that happened to him, but writing in a way that he wished it was about himself or actually happened to him, for a jealousy point of view maybe. Which brings me to my 2nd theory, that I think Jim also wrote Making Love Out Of Nothing At All with Meat in mind, but from a jealousy point of view.
