| Big news just came out. The Heavyweight Champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced his retirement. He has retired before, and come out of retirement, so we don't know if he'll return to the UFC or not. For most of this year the president of the UFC was saying the UFC would sign Russian fighting superstar Fedor Emelianenko before the end of this year. Presumably, Fedor would have then had a very high-profile match against Randy Couture. Fedor recently announced he would sign with a different league. Fedor is usually considered the best heavyweight MMA fighter in the world right now. I think this is a good thing, because it increases the chance that Randy Couture will fight Fedor. That match will be a better draw than any other possible fight in MMA, possibly in the history of MMA. In a way, it's too bad MMA is getting fragmented into multiple leagues like boxing has been. It makes the sport less attractive to spectators. Many hoped that all the best talent would cluster into the UFC, but I don't mind. It's also good to have different fight promotions compete for fighters, because that helps the fighters, who are underpaid, make more money. MMA is real, it's not fake like WWE and fake "wrestling". I really don't understand why more people don't watch it. Baseball is mostly people standing around doing nothing, and the games take hours. I've played baseball, thankfully not a lot of it, and it's mostly waiting around on the field and in the dugout. In MMA, the fights take less than half an hour and, except for short break between rounds, none of that is loitering like in baseball. | |
