| Dunno. I definitely don't enjoy Steinman's songs as much as I did when I first started to listen to them. Back then I might have said R&RDCT, but now I see it as kinda cheesy. There's a lot of Steinman lyrics in which I used to see some deep meaning, but that I now see as pop music cliches or word cleverness. I predict that a few years from now I'll be less of a Steinman fan, because the music gets less fresh to me. I'd probably pick "It Just Won't Quit" because it shows that Jim's talent goes beyond the easily-ridiculed style of some of his work, especially earlier work. It doesn't really remind me of Steinman's music. A lot of Steinman songs I think capture the way people imagine things or remember things, and this song has more potential to remind somebody of their real, current experience. If most of Jim's songs are 'heightened' this one is more 'grounded'. This song I don't think I'll ever start to consider fake or too imaginary. | |
