| For the favorite lines: No matter who they follow No matter where they lead No matter how they judge us I'll be everyone you need I won't be going to any performances of Whistle, but reading Willis' post a few days ago does make me wish I were. As I mentioned in another thread, I used to be an unexceptional amateur boxer, and here's a photo of me two months ago, barefoot in the yard, punching without gloves. Some people assume boxing must be dangerous, but relatively speaking it's not. It has one of the lowest rates of injury of all sports, contact or not. You wear a mouthpiece and, unless you're a pro, protective headgear. The ref will stop the round if you aren't defending yourself well or if you appear possibly injured. I had one hand injury while punching a heavy bag at the gym for practice, and other than that I've never had a boxing-related injury. By comparison, when I did sports other than boxing I had pulled muscles, inflammation, painful joints, a bad left knee, and back pain. If you ever are looking for a different sport, with less risk of injury, and you get tired of people saying, "Hey, that stuff is fake" you might give boxing a shot. The stereotypes about people who participate in the sport are wrong, just like all stereotypes. ![]() | |
