I think some have mistaken my post as a defense for religion or claiming that scientists are atheists. It was not. I'm not even religious myself. The whole point and meaning of what I was trying to say is that it doesn't matter if you're religious, atheist, dumb, smart, or Eskimo. Humans are a fucked up species. They were fucked up in the past. They're fucked up now, and I'm pretty sure they'll continue to be fucked up in the future. On and on until we destroy ourselves in the process. We suffer from egotism and pride. We're the only species that murders for pleasure, tortures for pleasure, and commits genocide. Yet somehow we claim we're more civilized than animals. This hunk of rock has survived mass extinctions, being hit with asteroids, numerous ice ages, and even after all those cataclysmic events over a span of billions of years, it took a few thousand years for modern man do more damage than any of those things. If it wasn't religion, it would have been something else. We would have found another reason to kill one another. It is what we are. We are incapable of living in peace, but we try our best. It's always the people who promote peace who always get assassinated. Martin Luther King, Malcolm Ex, Gandhi, John Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, John Lennon. They all told us to try and live together in harmony. Nope. BAM. Dead! Game over boys. Apparently that's difficult behavior for us humans. | |
