| Couple of news articles: ROCK icon Meatloaf disappointed thousands of North-East fans tonight when he was forced to cut short a concert due to a sore throat. The 60-year-old singer and his band, the Neverland Express, took to the stage at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle. The Bat Out of Hell star was due to belt out hits from his albums as part of an eight-date UK tour. advertisement Arena bosses said that fans who attended the show are unlikely to get their money back as it had been running for at least an hour before Meatloaf, whose real name is Michael Lee Aday, had to quit the stage. and ROCK legend Meat Loaf was forced to abandon a big Tyneside concert tonight after taking ill on stage. The American singer, best-known for his trilogy of Bat Out Of Hell albums, walked off after less than an hour of the show at Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena, leaving thousands of fans disappointed. The 60-year-old, who was blighted by health problems during his last world tour three years ago, is in the middle of a mammoth European tour which began in Manchester in May. His live shows, known to be lavish productions, usually last about two and a half hours. Meat Loaf is due to play in Birmingham on Friday, followed by Manchester, Nottingham, London and Cardiff, though there was no word from the singer's camp tonight over whether the shows will take place. One fan who was at the £35-a-ticket concert said: "He didn't sound good all night, and his backing singers had to carry him through one song, which he was struggling to finish. "After about 50 minutes of his set he finished a song and just walked off, then there was an announcement saying he couldn't continue. "One or two people were muttering about it as we left the Arena, but if the guy's ill he's ill and there's nothing you can do about it." No one from the Arena was available for comment. Dave | |
