It's a funny thing - way back in '92, before I'd made any connections between Jim Steinman and anything other than Meat Loaf, I heard this song. I was in a van with some friends, flipping through the radio, and came across a snippet of the "I need all the love I can get" chorus. "Go back!" I cried, and we listened to the rest of the song. "Oh, it's Sisters of Mercy," my hip friends told me (they were all upperclassmen, I was a lowly freshman). I tracked it down & was soon hooked. Imagine my surprise when, going through the liner notes, I saw the name Jim Steinman! Crazy how my ears picked up that little bit of "Jim" that I loved & latched onto it immediately. Soon after somebody mentioned that he wrote "Total Eclipse" and all the pieces started to fall into place... | |
