| 1. I was listening to The Beatles "Across The Universe" when I noticed something about the musical line "Nothing's gonna change my world". Go and listen to it, if you haven't already, and you'll probably see what I mean. 2. A friend sent me a scan of Chapter 13 of Harold Prince's biography (Prince directed "Whistle Down The Wind" in Washington D.C. and "Evita", "Sweeney Todd" and "The Phantom Of The Opera" etc.) Here were some interesting quotes that stood out, to me, in the "Whistle Down The Wind" chapter. QUOTE: "It was the wrong time for Andrew and me to be working together. We weren't in sync on this, and there was no joy in the collaborative process. Jim Steinman may have been the reason. Andrew had brought in Steinman, a successful rock and roll composer, in the belief that Jim would move him into the area of more current musical taste. There is certainly nothing wrong with that, but from the word go the working chemistry among the three of us was bad. Jim is talented, but he drove me crazy with perorations about what needed to be done, and then didn't do anything. Lots of thoughtful and articulate talk, but not enough action." Hmmmm....If anyone wants the full chapter, write me. 3. This will more interesting Andrew Lloyd Webber fans, BUT "The Phantom Of Manhattan" has found its director JACK O'BRIEN ("Hairspray", Utopia Trilogy etc.) and designer BOB CROWLEY. Both highly regarded in the industry, especially JACK, which shocked a fair bit of people. The story, according to the Daily Mail, is set in a Coney Island fairground run by The Phantom, Mme. Giry and Meg Giry. The Phantom lures Christine for a concert in New York, where she brings her husband RAOUL and her musically genius SON. Ben Elton was going to do the lyrics (no mention of Zippel in the Mail) and Forsyth, who wrote the book "Phantom Of Manhattan", is back on the project. 4. Hehe, I heard the "Spiderman" demos for the Broadway Musical that Julie Taymor's directing and Bono & The Edge are writing the songs for. The budget is set to be up to $30 million (US) Holy F-u-c-k-!-! "Batman" is still better, but I enjoyed it and it reminded me of something out of "Footloose" or "Grease" hehe. Merry Christmas everyone, and a happy new year. | |
