That's about it. The reader I've been using just pops up a little window in the corner of the screen, but I'm sure you can find one that will give you as many dongs as you can take ...

It's not immediate. There can be up to 10 minutes before my program spots the new message (I can make that quicker of course), plus the RSS reader will only check every few minutes. Still, if someone worries about how quickly they can see new messages, they don't need a faster system but they do need a life :-).
