I'm not a massive fan of Jim's vocals on that album, but I disagree that the songs were substandard. Whilst I think it was a mistake to copy the formula of 'Bat..' so closely that you can actually pick out which songs were which on a like for like basis (even down to the order they appear on the album!), they are still good songs in their own right. I mean 'Left In The Dark' is an absolute classic piece of Steinman.

I'm pretty sure I recall Jim saying that he struggled with the album as the songs were all written for Meat and so he had to sing in a much higher pitch than his natural baritone (hence the use of Rory on 'Surf's Up' and 'R'n'R Dreams'), so if he had carried on recording his own songs, I'd imagine he would have written them specifically to suit his own voice better. Which could have been interesting.

For me, the biggest frustration is imagining what might have happened if Meat hadn't lost his voice and the two hadn't become involved in legal wranglings for all those years. How many more Jim/Meat albums might we have had as a result?
