You can go even further. What do you think Jim did? If there was a Rockman Record for Richard Wagner when Jim was growing up, Wagner's fans would be saying the same thing. But Jim would have said "Just you wait and see..." and, henceforth, "Bat Out Of Hell" and etc. etc. etc. You've got to remember Jim's influences. Phil Spector, The Shangri-Las and "Leader Of The Pack" (which is one of the most iconic theatrical rock songs in existence before "Bat Out Of Hell"), The Who and Pete Townshend, Bruce Springsteen (to an extent) who seemed like he sparked an epiphany in Jim, and all of the Broadway musicals that Jim would have seen. It all went to his head and exploded in a mix of Wagnerian/rock excess that we know today. One of the best things about Jim Steinman is that he was inspired. Truly. | |
