I think Jim is one of the most known songwriters. Problem is, most people don't know/care who writes the songs.
Producers are starting to get known to the public over the past few years. I'd credit a lot of the to Timbaland. But there was also times when buying, say a Bob Rock album meant you'd get a decent rock record.
I guess the reward of being a songwriter is the royalties and the potential Grammy, not the recognition of the public. But Jim did get his name on the album covers and that's rarely done.
