Regulations change often and sometimes alot. Get as much information as to what's needed and you'll at least be prepared. Dogs going into Britain at least used to have to quarantine for 6 months--which was terrible when it came to showing dogs. But they were ultra careful about rabies. There have been on and off quarantines coming into the states, especially depending on where the animals were arriving from, throughout the years so I'm not current on that at all. 'Mailing' him to you would have him being shipped to you as live cargo--it used to run about $300 one way for domestic flights and the cargo rules are usually pretty strict. It can be done, I'm sure, but if the option's out there at all for you to fly over and return with him, that would be my first option. It's sounds like you've done this before, just be sure everything's current and the airline's regulations remain as you recall.
Cheers!
