It's nice prose, but lack of love etc. was not the reason why millions of smokers developed lung cancer during the 20:th century while they were being told that it was harmless (during the 1930's smoking was even encouraged by doctors since it was supposed to be good for digestion), the reason was "green-washing" (i.e funding "independent" research to "prove" that a harmful product is harmless) by Big Tobacco, sometimes via prestigious universities. There have always been insane people, but today it seems that there's more " unexplained craziness" out there than ever before, whether it's pushed by Big Pharma and/or any environmental factor(s).
