If you are not going to be convinced of the English language then why bother with what the lyrics say at all?

It is a very simple sentence structure. "I would do anything for love" for instance "I'd run right into hell and back,"... "I'd never lie to you"... etc."But I will never stop dreaming of you every night of my life, yes I would do anything for love, but I won't do that." It is all there... if you want to be one of the many people who try to say that instead the song is saying he won't lick her snatch or screw her in the ass or some such nonsense, then you make Jim's lyrics infantile and unclever... Don't look for hidden meanings that aren't there.
