| I just recently learned of the passing of a friend of mine, Mike Smith (of the Dave Clark 5); one of the British Invasion Bands. Mike was 64 years old. Mike suffered from a freak accident 4 years ago and was left tetraplegic and was released from the hospital about a month ago. (Mike had broken his neck and needed 24 hour nursing care). During his stay, Paul Shaffer was instrumental in having a benefit for him in N.Y. After Mike was released from the hospital last month, Steve Van Zandt, Max Weinberg and the man himself (Bruce Springstein) had Mike transported to their concert in London. Steve was very involved in making this happen. Mike and his wife had every intention of being present at the R&R Hall Awards and was process of making arrangements to transport Mike, just 2 weeks away. For those of you who are unaware, the Dave Clark 5 knocked the Beatles out of their No. 1 position in the charts in the U.K. back in the day. Attempts were made in the past for Jim and ML to be inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame as J.D. mentioned this in previous posts; perhaps we need to do this again to make it happen. I'm not sure how to go about this, but we have a lot of unique talent out there...let's just do it. Sorry for the length of this post, I just learned of this and a little in shock.. | |
