I'm in a great spot to address this topic as I just, literally last night, finally added Bat I and my faves from Bat II to my IPOD. Somehow Bat III, Dad Ringer and Bad Attitude got on there first. Its actually been a long time, maybe possibly a year, since I've listened to the real Bats.

This very morning my train ride consisted on IDAFL, Booh and ELTEE. Damn. Talk about absence making the heart grow fonder!

While I still prefer, and will always prefer, I think, the more "raw" energy of Bat I, I kept marveling to myself on the production of Bat II, the amazing separation of instruments and clarity of every sound. The piano, especially, on IDAFL is awesome. (And what a slap in the balls reminder of how badly they muddled it on Bat III. Uggh. I know they had copies of the Bat discs in the studio for the Bat III sessions; if only they'd used them for more than coasters and cutting coke.)

As for Frying Pan, I've always felt that Jim underwrote that song. There's no good reason why there aren't third and fourth verses, as far as I can tell. It would have been a great single if you hadn't heard the whole song at 1:42 or so.
