Who else would have the rights for it? Jim doesn't seem to show any interest in pursuing it? Barry has talked about a revival for years. I always presumed that he was responsible for the rights. Unless the Wagner estate control the concept? Then again, "Lord of the Rings" is basically "The Ring" reimagined for Middle Earth. Hmmm...

As for the script, I think it's unproduceable on a professional level. I could never see it in a Broadway mounting without serious revisions in tone, dialogue and structure. But as an intimate piece, at a club or reading or dining area, would be hysterical. It could be the most psychotic theatrical presentation in years.

Btw., there's an old urban legend about "Rhinegold" (I have no idea if it's true or not.) It originally played at the Mercer Arts Center in NY, right? Well, an actor from that production (the same production that had Jessica "Shock Treatment" Harper who'd appeared in other productions at Mercer) said the Center was torn down more or less the day after "Rhinegold" closed. LMAO, you could almost make a wry joke about that. "Sheesh, it stunk so bad they had to pull down the entire theatre"?

Again, I have no idea if that one's true. But I think "Rhinegold" is so bizarre it's cute. It's like Disney on acid in the worst way, 70 minutes of Tweedledee and Tweedledum doing a huge ego-inflated rant.

As for UBU... I had

Aren't there songs in the original show? "Ubu Roi", the source, was staged at the Paris Opera (to riots, incidentally, because of the use of the word SHIT!)

I think they're bound to release "Whistle" but only in the dreadful Kenwright version. I think you might be able to (at least) perform excerpts from the German version. Get in touch with Ursula at VBW. They control the rights. Personally, I would love to attend a production where you directed Judi's translation. Kunze has a translation, from 97, but it's all over the place.
