The reason why CHSIB was such a great album (I think it's great, there are a few people here who don't) is a) it wasn't rushed, b) the record label weren't pressuring Meat to release this album and c) it had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to live up to. What could it have lived up to? Meat's previous album was released in the 1990s on the tail of "Back Into Hell". There was next to no expectations, like "Bat Out Of Hell", and Meat probably recorded his second most sincere album because of it. "Welcome To The Neighborhood" is still a decent/great album but it's still very much in the "Back Into Hell" time-warp i.e. Diane Warren trying to emulate "I'd Do Anything For Love" twice and failing etc. Why I think "Bull In A China Shop" is also going to be a decent album is because there are no expectations. TMIL didn't set the world on fire. The only reason it did the business it did, which it wouldn't have done if it was actually referred to as TMIL, is because it had "Bat III" plastered above the name. Unfortunately for Meat, you can't just plaster that name anywhere (Something he seemed to realize when "Escape From Hell" became "Welcome To The Neighborhood".) and, of course, it failed dismally. No one's clamouring for the follow-up because Meat didn't have a chart-guzzling hit. I think we will all be pleasantly surprised with this album. I'm interested because apparently it's going to have a bluesy rock sound. (The only parts of TMIL I enjoyed were the B-sides i.e. "Black Betty" and "Whore" could have paved the way for a decent 2006 album.) > > > > I agree. Hopefully, Meat will use his own judgment this time around and not listen to other "advisors" who are out of touch with what fans want. Didn't Marion Raven have the same management as Meat and Desmond Child was also producing her album? Not surprising how she got that duet and so much promotion off of Bat III. Hopefully, this time around Meat will use Patti on all the duets and there will be lots of duets. That will also ensure a great tour because their live duet performances are always a big hit with the audience. | |
