I think there was a buzz about The Dreamgirls prior to Bat3 being complete, which is probably why they used her, to try and capitalise on it. However, it obviously fell flat on its arse since they didn't release Future around the time of all the Oscar hoopla, pretty dumb move by Meats' people if you ask me.
Not sure when Patti recorded the demo, but I think it was more early 2000's rather than late 1990's. Jim apparently absolutely adores Patti's version, I can see/hear why, I love it.
