| The Lew Archer series (and this is not just my opinion) is considered one of the best in the private eye genre. The running theme in all the novels is the past always catches up with someone. Usually when Archer gets a case a murder ensues and he finds the contemporary events are brought about by another event twenty or thirty years in the past. I read the series from the sixties through the seventies. I believe MacDonald died in 1983 but his final novel was years before that. Several stories were made into TV movies and one really bad adaptation starring Paul Newman was so awful they changed Arecher's name to Harper. This failure was a rarity for Paul Newman. Usually I'll watch him in anything. Two of my favorites in the series were The Underground Man and The Blue Hammer. Oh, if you are looking for a new thriller writer who will soon be a household name in America is Meg Gardiner. She just had her sixth novel released. I am halfway through it. It's called The Dirty Secrets Club. She has a five book series (so far) starring Evan Delaney. Start with China Lake. Gardiner gets progressively better with every novel. The fifth book (Killchain) was a flatout, nonstop performance of adventure and thrills. She is popular in England and Canada and is just now breaking into the US. The Evan Delaney series will be released at one book a month starting in July. The sixth book is the first in anew series. Please let me know if anyone gets interested in Meg Gardiner's works. > > Is the story as good as the poem? > > > Thanks for the info.
