It wasn't meant to be an insult and it definitely wasn't random.
If Loafers were on the political right and Steinmaniacs were on the political left, a lot of Loafers from .net would be far right neo-Meat nutjobs, a lot of normal fans would be centrists and have a leaning to both sides. You'd probably be a far left 'code pink' type person.
