Yes. Look on the bright side though - it's taking the media's attention away from global whining and their other pet subjects. Seems to me that they settle on an opinion that we should all have, and then bombard us with it relentlessly, regardless of unfortunate facts in the opposite direction. We always get told about record lows in the arctic ice coverage, but they failed to mention the record recovery in October 2007. This planet may well be more resilient than they suggest. Fuel and food prices are up and house prices are down, but that follows plenty of years where that hasn't been the case. And as smeg says below, if purses need to be tightened the effect isn't people going hungry, but having to buy that big plasma TV next year not this year.
