Meat Loaf and Bayreuth

This August I'm going to do two things for the first time: On August 11 I'm going to a Meat Loaf concert and on August 14 I'm going to Bayreuth.

I have heard rumours that Meat Loaf isn't that great live nowadays. But if he's good or not, I think it will be a very interesting experience. What would I like him to sing... All the Steinman songs he has recorded, some Steinman songs he hasn't recorded, all songs from Stoney and Meatloaf, maybe Razor's Edge and Monster's Loose... I'm quite sure that his setlist won't quite be what I'd like it to be. But still I'm looking forward to seeing him live. (Note: I don't want to know what his recent setlist has been. If there are surprises, I want to be surprised!)

And then Bayreuth a couple of days later... I just listened to the live broadcast of Parsifal and it was wonderful. Daniele Gatti must be one of the greatest Wagner conductors of our time. I don't know what the new production is like. (And I don't want to know. If there are surprises, I want to be surprised!). Apart from Parsifal, I'm going to see Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Tristan und Isolde. I've heard that Katharina Wagner's (the composer's great-granddaughter) production of Die Meistersinger is totally crazy. Might be fun, might be awful. Unfortunately I've heard that Christoph Marthaler's production of Tristan und Isolde is boring. But at least there are some good singers. Unfortunately I'm not going to see Der Ring des Nibelungen which is conducted by the great Christoph Thielemann.

Tomorrow there's going to be a broadcast of Tristan und Isolde. More information at http://operacast.com/bayreuth08.htm
