If people are going to do cover versions, they should try to bring their own originality to the song. They should make their version their own. As you say, this guy tries to do his own thing instead of trying to copy Meat Loaf. It's like the Roxy Music version of Jealous Guy is quite different than John Lennon's original. And it became Roxy Music's best selling single. Of course a tribute band will probably copy the artist that they are paying tribute to. Someone like Dean Torkington probably has no choice but to try and get as close to a copy of Meat Loaf as possible. That's his job (when board members refer to porkington, are they referring to Dean Torkington? - they must be). But serious artists should try and do their own thing with the cover version. Like this chap has tried to do. I think one of the problems that the producers of Bat Out Of Hell: The Musical are facing is how to do versions of songs that Meat Loaf has made famous. Jim is going to have to make them different. Unless Meat Loaf stars in the show. Which would be interesting. > Nice version of Bat... this guy does his own thing instead > of trying to be Meat... > > Curtesy of Baal / Lewd... > > K. | |
