Personally i'd opt for the original 1989 cd, i think it sounds better.
I think that the remaster suffers as a casualty in the "Loudness War",
In a nutshell: To make a song "louder" for the listener (independent(!) of the actual volume level on the listener's equipment) and more competitive on the market the record company reduces (compresses) the dynamic range of a song to maximize its loudness level!
At first it seems to sound better ('cause louder) but especially on equipment better than mobiles or ipods you realize less dynamic range and maybe even distortion and clipping.
