I dunno... for every six or seven 'cries for help' there's always at least one person who's made a pretty impressive attempt (taking every pill in the house/drinking vast quantities of pills and cleaning fluids washed down with alcohol/jumping from high buildings etc.) The human body is a lot tougher than a lot of people realise. I blame the media and films these days in which people only have to fall about 10 feet or get hit by one bullet and they're dead instantly. People always laugh at old films/plays where people take ages to die. I'm sorry, but these things were written by people who had seen people die and knew how long it took. A lot of people who take serious overdoses survive because they get found in time. So... um.. yeah, I think my conclusion is that there should be more death on telly and there should be more carnage involved to bring it about! That way hopefully people would realise that a good proportion of serious suicide attempts don't actually kill you but instead land you in intensive care with brain damage/lots of broken bones/no gastrointestinal tract left and this might encourage them not to try it in the first place. Because if you thought life sucked before... Ali (keeping the Christmas cheer up) | |
