That's very witty but it's also a sad truth. We all > have dreams but at the same time we have to face reality. > > Bruce would have written some hard lyric to drive a point > like that home. But Jim does it in a way that (to me) > makes him unique amongst lyricists. Well put. One example I think of is "I'll Kill You if You Don't Come Back" which, I never really noticed until recently, sounds kind of stalkerish (lol). It's flippant, until you get to the last verse, then it's so sad: "Somebody bless all these girls that I never have met But damn you, and curse you, after all that you've done You're the one girl I'll never forget Somebody bless all these girls and everything that they do But damn me and curse me for still needing you And I'll kill you if you don't come back" Bruce comes straight out with someting like "Drive All Night": "When I lost you honey sometimes I think I lost my guts too And I wish God would send me a word Send me something I'm afraid to lose Lying in the heat of the night like prisoners all our lives I get shivers down my spine and all I wanna do is hold you tight I swear I'll drive all night just to buy you some shoes And to taste your tender charms And I just wanna sleep tonight again in your arms" I agree that Jim's talent works for musicals. Although Bruce, on the other hand, is very versitile. He can do quiet acoustic songs along with his harder rockers, such as his Tom Joad and Devils and Dust albums. I love to listen to just him and his guitar. :0) | |
