Hey, just got back!

A really good gig! Set list as follows (as far as I can remember it):

Have You Ever Seen the Rain
To Love Somebody
New Song (Don't Call...?)
It's a Heartache
Lost in France
Hide Your Heart
I Don't Wanna Know
Straight From the Heart
Total Eclipse of the Heart
Faster Than the Speed of Night
Is That Thing Loaded
Amazing (New Song?)
Turtle Blues
Holding Out for a Hero

Total Eclipse went down a storm but, surprisingly, Faster was the song that had people on their feet for the first time tonight! Her voice was brilliant on the first few songs, but she struggled to keep up a little and hit the high notes on some of the subsequent numbers, especially Hide Your Heart and the faster bits on Faster - although she had a go at a 'low' version of the Holly Sherwood vocal wail and did a pretty good job! (In fact, she ended up singing a lot of the 'backing vocal' parts herself in places)

And yes - she mentioned working with Jim! (The story about meeting him for the first time, the trail of M&M's leading to his door - although she had to spell it out "Not enemas - things you put up your bum!"
She was her typical self - modest, humble, hilarious, and wacky! She even fell over at one point but was caught by the bassist! Really down to earth and warm and the audience loved her. She gave a little introduction to every song, talked about her history as a singer, etc. and even sang Happy Birthday to a member of her crew.

No mention of new recordings with Jim. She said she'd been touring all over the world ("I bet everyone in the UK thought I was dead, right?!") and has recorded seven new songs. The new ones she played obviously weren't Steinsongs, but they went down fairly well.

She also had a lot of her relatives in (rowdy lot at the back!) including someone she knew from when she was singing in clubs, friends & family, and the sister of the A&R guy who first signed her. Her husband was also there for the show and she brought him on stage to dedicate "Amazing" to him (not a Jim song either to my ears!).

Just when we thought we she was going to leave, rousing cries of "I need a hero" from the crowd kicked off the finale, with the entire theatre on their feet and singing along to "Holding Out for a Hero" (although my friend who came with me still swears Tina Turner recorded it! I tried to educate him!)

First time I've seen her live and it was great to see so many people on their feet for the Steinsongs in particular. Fave song of the night was Faster Than the Speed of Night (they really rocked up the finale!)

Sorry you couldn't come Dave, it was a brilliant night! It ended too soon though (she was on stage for an hour and a half but it seemed to fly by). Warm-up act John Young didn't get the best reception, but I'm a fan of AOR and prog anyway (and have one of his albums) so I rather enjoyed his set and then said hi and bought a CD off him in the interval.

Bonnie should come back to Ipschwitz every year!

- Danny.
