Jim had no work (apparently this was before he did the first Bonnie Tyler album, even though both this & Eclipse were released at the same time), so I imagine when Air Supply's people approached, he jumped at the chance? Not sure they 'paid' for the song. I imagine a production fee was agreed, and because it was going on a greatest hits album and released as the single, Jim would have been assured of getting decent songwriting royalties? > Both this song and TEOTH were meant for Meat but the > record company wouldn't pony up the money and so this is > why Bonnie got TEOTH and Air Supply got MLOONAA. I think Jim offered them to Meat for his Midnight album. I very much doubt he wrote them for/with Meat in mind? > Jim clearly put a lot of work into the production of TEOTH > and I wouldn't say it was lacklustre, but MLOONAA was > saved only by the strength of the song itself. Hmmm. The production/arrangement has to suit the song and Jim presumably wanted to highlight the Air Supply vocals with a slightly understated backing (compared to Eclipse). > Compare Bonnie's version which is far superior, except for > the Bova moments in the production. I love both versions, and I wouldn't say either one is superior, just different. To me, the Air Supply piano & vocals are much better, but I love the lyrical re-write & operatic vocals in Bonnie's version. BTW - The sampled operatic vocals are Bonnie's mother. | |
