It sounds like ALW has put a lot of thought into this and not gone for a 'syrupy sweet happy ending', which can only be a good thing?
The 'castration of Crawford' ending is for the camp cabaret version in a few years.
Incidentally some say 'strung up by his balls' was his vocal technique in DOTVampires.
