Yes, Ken Hill was working on a production of "The Phantom of the Opera" featuring excerpts from classical works with new lyrics. Ken wanted Sarah for the role of Christine which is how Andrew became involved. At some point, Andrew and Cameron were going to produce Ken's version before they had the idea to try the same idea themselves. They didn't really treat the story seriously at this point. It was actually Jim Sharman, director of "The Rocky Horror Show", who told Andrew that he was missing a golden opportunity to write a romantic score. I don't know at what point Jim became involved or when it was a rock opera but Jim was only involved for a couple of weeks because of the Bonnie Tyler album (Damn her!)
