In the UK, three different commercials have used TEOTH since Christmas. I have heard BOOH being piped into two different mens rooms. Terry Wogan often mentions Jim on Radio Two. He recently played Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through. The builders across the road often play the Bat album at a very loud volume. One chap killed his next door neighbour because he played the Bat album over and over again (it was quite a big news story). Everyone in the media knows Jim's name and what he has achieved. I wouldn't be surprised if bands like Duran Duran were influenced by Steinmusic. Duran Duran are about the right age and being influenced may include some slight attempt at plagirism. Celine Dion's version of IACBTMN gets frequent airplay on a number of different radio stations. Even the new production of WDTW helps to spread the power of Jim. Unfortunately Jim is not as famous with the common man as Meat Loaf or Celine Dion (despite being very well known with media people). That will probably change if Jim Steinman's BOOH The Musical is a big hit (let us all pray that it is). And all of this is just the UK. Tanz is apparently the most successful stage show of all time in Germany. I hear that Meat Loaf has used several Jim songs for recent ads in the U.S.. I am not sure but I think that Bat is the most popular album of all time in Australia. As you correctly say about Steinmusic: "suddenly it seems to be everywhere." You are not just imagining this. | |
